4th International Symposium on Therapeutic Ultrasound

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to cordially invite you to participate in the 4th
International Symposium on Therapeutic Ultrasound to be held from
September 18 to 20, 2004 in Kyoto Japan.

The use of ultrasound for therapy has a long and short history.
Research on high intensity ultrasound to ablate cancers was started
more than 50 years ago. However for various reasons, diagnostic
ultrasound had become the major and broad use of ultrasound in
medicine today. Recently, due to several technical breakthroughs and
discoveries, therapeutic ultrasound has again caught the attention of
many scientists and clinicians as a new non-invasive form of therapy
for various diseases. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is
starting to be used in patients and application of ultrasound energy
to enhance drug effectivity is another new field that did not exist
50 years ago.

The scientific program will cover all the fields of therapeutic
ultrasound from the basic bioeffects of ultrasound to clinical case
presentations using HIFU, and also, the combination of drug and
ultrasound energy, that involves gene therapy, sonoporation,
transdermal drug delivery, microbubbles, chemotherapy, sonodynamic
therapy, cardiovascular applications, and many others.

The setting for the congress is Kyoto, the beautiful ancient capital
of Japan, an ideal place to enjoy the unique and traditional culture
of Japan.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 4th International Symposium
on Therapeutic Ultrasound (ISTU 2004) !

November 6th, 2003

Sincerely,
