  臨床膵島移植は、重症糖尿病の新規治療法として推奨されている。 福岡大学病院は我が国で開始される高度医療実施6施設のうち、九州、沖縄で唯一の認定施設である。 2006年11月に九州・沖縄での第一例目を実施した。
本プロジェクトでは新規治療法の開発を行うとともに症例数を蓄積し、臨床治験を実施する。

  既に我々は、臨床膵島移植で解決すべき最も重要な課題である、移植早期膵島障害に関し、実験的にメカニズムの全貌を解明し、臨床導入可能な制御法を見出している。

  更に移植膵島の再生を目指した新たなアプローチや、iPS 細胞からの膵島細胞の誘導も研究プロジェクトとして進行中である。
