Medicine is a study that seeks to cure “people with disease” rather than “diseases” per se. The focus is always on people, and medical professionals are required to develop ample human qualities to treat patients. Of course, it is also necessary for medical practitioners to constantly master ever-evolving medicine and medical technology.

The Faculty of Medicine is a place where students acquire the advanced knowledge and skills required of medical professionals, as well as learn about high moral standards, ethics, and fairness. The Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Sports and Health Science, and Fukuoka University Hospital are all located on campus, and Chikushi Hospital and Nishijin Hospital are also located nearby. As such, our university provides the kind of environment where students can learn about medicine, medical care, and health in a single location. In addition, in order to work with people in other professions, students need to develop leadership skills as a member of a medical team, as well as cooperative and communication skills to facilitate team medical care.
In order to nurture doctors with the "FU-RIGHT" spirit (Fukuoka University: Relationship, Intelligence, Gentleness, Health, and Teaching), the School of Medicine organizes its curriculum to allow students to effectively prepare for common achievement tests/national examinations. The curriculum is designed to nurture medical backgrounds in an iterative manner. In addition to learning basic medicine from the first year, students undertake hands-on practical training and clinical practice in hospital wards, while reviewing and solidifying their knowledge as they progress through the course. During their six years of study, students must acquire the mental strength, high ethical standards, scientific inquisitiveness, and self-directed learning ability required of doctors. We hope that even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, students will develop a global perspective through exchanges with overseas universities and the locality of Fukuoka as a cosmopolitan city, and that after graduation they will go on to make meaningful contributions to international and regional medical care.
In the School of Nursing, students undertake a systematic study of nursing as an academic discipline, with a focus on "being close to the patient". The school emphasizes clinical education conducted at university hospitals and other facilities, with the goal of nurturing nursing professionals with advanced knowledge and skills who can make extensive contributions to society.
As a medical professional, every day is a learning experience, especially at the bedside, where you can gain actual, hands-on experience and knowledge through facing your patients with sincerity. While working hard in your studies to become the ideal medical professional in your own image, you should also aim to cultivate professionalism in dealing with precious lives and become a medical professional who "treats people".
